Season FAQs
During peak seasons (Oct–Nov & Apr–May), civil aviation authorities reroute Lukla flights to Ramechhap (Manthali Airport) to avoid severe air traffic delays at Kathmandu airport.
Ramechhap is approximately 130 km (80 miles) east of Kathmandu, taking 4 to 5 hours by vehicle over winding hill roads.
Shared or private tourist vehicles typically depart Thamel around 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM to reach Manthali Airport for early morning flights.
Flights are rescheduled for the next clear window. Helicopter upgrades ($300–$500 extra per person) are available as an alternative option.
We strongly recommend adding 2 buffer days at the end of your trek before your international departure flight.
